45 Percent Rain

Today I grabbed lunch at 5 Buck Pizza. Just a slice of cheese pizza and a soda for $2.60. Nice, right? I like to stop at the 3rd and 7th Ward Building (the Dairy Queen church) because I can park my car where it's sunny to keep warm in the winter...

or in the shade and lower the windows to keep cool in summer.

So, I'm sitting in my car, eating my pizza and jamming to the radio. I'm sure I was quite the sight :). Today's pretty chilly and I got to watch a dark cloud enbankment roll in... then it starts to rain... then hail... then snow.

Then the radio tells me the weather. "Mostly cloudy & becoming breezy. Chance for rain showers 45 percent. Temperature 32 degrees." Wait a second... So this is what 45% looks like? Huh. What can I say but welcome to Idaho!

Self Portrait Tuesday: I am saying "I love you" when I...

I am saying "I love you" when I clean the house.

I know I'm a bit of a slob and my sister and roommate Chris never complains about my bedroom. So when you're feeling stressed and I actually follow through on cleaning the bathroom when it's my turn, its because I love you. Chris, thanks for being so patient with me and for being my friend as well as my sister!

Self Portrait Tuesday: Eight is Great

In my search this week for eights, I couldn't help finding a multitudes of 2008s. I know it's March, but I keep writing down the wrong year. Today I changed my files at work and moved the 2008's from the "This Year" drawer to the "Last Year" drawer. I'm hoping that helps. :)

Self Portrait Tuesday: Eight is Great

I know that it's March and that it's 2009, but in my search for eights this week I couldn't help stumble across several 2008s. On one of my checks this week I wrote the wrong year. Then I transferred all my files in the "This Year" drawer down to the "Last Year" drawer. Don't they look pretty?

Night Club

This week my book club met to discuss this month's book. Did I tell you what I named it? The book club, not the book :). Since our club is at night then it's the Night [Book] Club or just Night Club for short. It cracks me up every time I send out a reminder email because we're mostly single LDS school marms and it's the closest we've ever gotten to a night club :).

This month the book selection is Persuasion by Jane Austen. It took me a little while to get into the book because, frankly, the language is 193!!! years old. Can you believe it's almost 200 years old and people are still reading it?! That craziness.
I was glad that I had seen the movie so that I knew the plot and could still skim when I didn't have a clue what I was reading. Austen does this weird third person narrative without any dialogue that feels vague. Of course, I don't know some of the words she uses. Actually, I don't know a lot of the words she uses. I ALMOST looked up what "staid" was but then realized that it's just a change in the spelling for "stayed" :). Oy.

It's been quite the adventure and the book is MUCH better than the 1995 movie version because they dropped big sections of the story and tried to wrap up the plot in the last twenty minutes. Lame. One of my favorite passages is when Anne has overheard her ex-fiancé (she had been persuaded by her family to break it off) tell her friend that to be easily persuaded shows a lack of character. Ouch. Then as the whole group is walking back, they meet up with his sister and he talks her into driving Anne back because she's tired.

"She understood him. He could not forgive her, --but he could not be unfeeling. Though condemning her for the past, and considering it with high and unjust resentment, though perfectly careless of her, and though becoming attached to another, still he could not see her suffer, without the desire of giving her relief. It was a remainder of a former sentiment; it was an impusle of pure though unacknowleged friendship; it was a proof his own warm and amiable heart... "

Anne is feeling so sad and hurt and yet can't help admire a guy that doesn't like her but is still a gentleman enough to provide for her needs. Isn't that sweet? And so sad? Definitely a bittersweet moment. Yah, I SERIOUSLY missed that in the movie :). They came out with a new movie of Persuasion last year and it is just delightful. Chris totally has the hots for Captain Wentworth :). And for good reason!
Sorry. Rambling. For Night Club we got together at my parents’ house where they have a comfy basement and watched the new version. Sounds like fun, right? I was really hoping people would show up. There's nothing more awkward than inviting ten people and only have your mother show up like last month. Last month was a bit of a dud. It started off with Mom saying it sure was a thick book and then asking me how far I'd gotten on the Relief Society photo directory :). Good times!
This month we met with Mindy Haws (thanks for coming Mindy!) and my sister, Tricia. It was a small group, but we had a good time.

Cabin Fever

I think I'm experiencing cabin fever. It was snowing yesterday and I can't take it anymore, so I bought my plane ticket to sunny California. I've been planning for the last year to go visit my friend Liang and I've finally saved enough for the plane ticket and now I only have... let's see... 92 days until vacation. But who's counting :).

SPT~ I think it would be romantic to...

This week I get to share that "I think it would be romantic to..."

Get flowers from a boy. Don't get me wrong. I am VERY certain that my dad is a boy, but someday I would love to get flowers from a boy... friend :). Every year for Valentine's my dad brings all of his girls flowers, or a poem, or chocolates. Isn't that sweet?! Thanks Dad!

I Love It When I Can...

Time for another round of Self-Portrait Tuesdays (SPT) and I just know you're just waiting with baited breath what crazy antics I've gotten myself into this week. Continuing with the month's theme of "All You Need Is Love," this week we explore...

"I Love It When I Can..."
cuddle with my skrunklish blanket Mom made me when I went to college (thanks Mom!), dunk some Oreos, and watch what Chris calls my Nerd Shows which depending on the day could be Stargate on the Sci-Fi channel or Throw down with Bobby Flay on Food Network. Check out that smile! Who wouldn't want to be me right now (other than Chris who, by the way, stole one of my Oreos for her photography fee)?P.S. Can you tell Tricia cut my hair? Didn't it turn out great! I'm so glad she's finally in Burley; it really cuts down the commute time :).

Introducing SPTs

I was reading a friend of a friend's blog and they do a Self-Portrait Tuesday (SPT) where she picks a theme to explore for the month. Sounds cool, right? Last month was "I Resolve to Take More Self-Portraits". Obviously you can see how far I've come with my SPTs, but I'm going to do better this month... I hope :)

February's theme is "All You Need Is Love". You wouldn't think that would be very hard, but since I don't have a sweetheart then I'll be looking for qualitites I love about my roommate (Chris), my parents, and my neighbor (Tricia). So here we go....

"I Love It When You... "
(Mom) call me at work to ask one thing (will I help with refreshments at tonight's Relief Society board meeting) and transitions into telling me that I should come to her house for dinner since eating out is making me fat and ends the call after twenty minutes with telling me I need to eat more fruit and vegitables. Okay, okay. I may have exagerated a smidgen :), but I love that you care.
